Good evening! So, I'm 9 months old today! Wow! Time flies. Seems like just yesterday I was wearing diapers and drinking from a bottle - I guess that was yesterday :)
Ok, to see how I fare, I decided to look at the average milestones of a 9 month old baby girl. Here they are:
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND MOTOR SKILLS
A 9-month-old generally has reached the following milestones:
- Gains weight at a slower rate -- approximately 15 grams per day, 1 pound per month
- Increases in length by 1.5 centimeters per month
- Becomes more regulated in bowel and bladder systems (I'm defintely regular:) )
- Shows parachute reflex to protect self from falling (100% sure of this!)
- Is able to crawl (yuppers!)
- Remains sitting for prolonged periods (oh yeah)
- Pulls self to standing position (just did it today for the first time)
- Begins preference for dominant hand (the verdict is still out on this one)
- Has a pincer grasp between thumb and index finger (oh yeah - no matter how small the dirt is, i'll pick it up)
SENSORY AND COGNITIVE SKILLS
The 9-month-old typically:
- Is developing depth perception (I started to stare at ceilings and am able to put things in my mouth now that are small)
- Achieves "object constancy", the understanding that objects continue to exist even when not seen (my mom hid something under a cup and 2 min. later I went for the cup for my toy)
- Responds to simple commands (never!)
- Understands the meaning of "no" (nope!)
- Imitates speech sounds (omigod do I ever!)
- May be afraid of being left alone (this i'm proud to say I don't do)
Today I woke up at 6am! Ouch - but luckily there was no falling incident ... tee hee hee. I went to Kindermusik and it wasn't that bad. I got to crawl all around the class laughing at the other kids and trying to pull thier soothers off thier clothes. Man I love to cause trouble!
In the afternoon, my best friend Hannah came over with her parents. She is the coolest baby! We had a couple of conversations today. Also, we played some leap frog. I had a super duper time. Also, my parents did to ... they got to watch a movie and Y&R. (just for you folks who haven't watched it in years - not much has changed).
After my gal pal left, I played/fussed with mom and dad came home and then bedtime. I was pooped!
And, my new skill of the day: I pulled myself up on my play piano! Mom didn't catch it on film. Boo! But there were witnesses who saw.
Here are some videos of me crawling at super speed, trying to pull myself up, and playing with my friend Hannah. I know some of these files are big, but they are worth seeing. Enjoy!
Love Hannah
