Cheers to Jakey!!!

Yay for Jakey!

(quickly - Tuesday - Park 'n Play in the morning - Brenda watched Hannah while I took Jake to the doc in the afternoon - at night I hit Bluesfest with Marlo to see Fergie - pretty neat!)

Now for the good stuff. Today I took Jakey for his surgery. He's had too many ear infections and needed to get tubes put in each ear. This way the fluid can drain properly causing less infections, less chance of hearing loss, and less overall pain/discomfort. (you can read about the surgery here: Myringotomy)

First off, he couldn't eat. So from 6pm last night until dinner tonight he'd had 1 cup of apple juice. We arrived at the hospital (after trying to keep Jakey happy all morning with no food) at 11:45am. Hannah had already been dropped off at her grand maman's place. We checked in and discovered the toy area. Then it was time for Jakey to get weighed (10.46 kgs. - 23 lbs.), temperature taken, and a blood pressure check. After that we got him in his little hospital top and bottom. Red stripes are not very flattering on anyone! After that, we sat in the waiting room with him for 1.5 hours - then he passed out and slept for a bit. Around 2pm he awoke and 10min later they called our names. I went in with Jakey and held him (down) while they put the mask for the anesthetic on. He wasn't impressed. Took about 10 seconds then he was fast asleep. 15 min later, the nurse came to the waiting room and asked just me to come with her. About 10 seconds of walking beside this nurse I finally got up the courage to ask what was wrong ... she said that Jake was screaming and they weren't sure if it was from pain or from wanting me. They also tried giving him a bottle of apple juice - he wasn't down with the bottle. I walked in, gave him his sippy cup of apple juice, and he was ok. That meant I got to stay in the recovery room :). 10 min. later we got to go to the other recovery room where Jakey got a popsicle and a quick check over then at 3:45pm - was released. By the time we got in the car Jakey was 100% normal!!! He is such a trooper!!!! There is a bit of blood in his left ear which means they drained a lot fluid that shouldn't be there. He ate a full dinner and went to bed just like normal. So far so good! Hopefully tonight is easy peasy.

Onto another pretty cool topic. The dreaded bed. Well, my intentions were to assemble it for Jakey for the future. Monday night he was already asleep when I took him upstairs so I put him in his bed - he slept awesome. Tuesday night I put him down awake in his bed (thought I'd try my luck) and he cried (as he'd do in his crib), stood up using the guard rail, and cried some more, then lay down on the bed and fell asleep. Wow. Holy crap. Even I was shocked he did that. Tonight, same as last night with less crying. Now the other thing, Tuesday morning I woke him (taking pics), today I woke him to drink at 6:30am, I'm interested to see what he does when he wakes tomorrow. However, if he can do until Sunday night like this then I'm getting rid of the crib and keeping the bed. Either way I'll have some rough times - either now or later - I prefer getting it over with now, makes traveling a heck of a lot easier!

k - that was a mouthful! I'm soooo exhausted.

Cheers!
Sharon
